《外语教学理论与实践》于2011年第2期发表了许钧等人的一组文章,重提1995年前后的《红与黑》汉译大讨论事件。本文作者,该书的译者之一,提出了对其中几篇文章中某些观点的不敢苟同之处,以丰富的实例证明了再创派的翻译效果超越了等值派,并论证了中国的翻译研究水平并不比西方译论落后,甚至更为先进。

Abstract

The East China Normal University-based academic journal Foreign Language Learning: Theory and Practice carries a number of essays in its 2nd issue of 2011, by Xu Jun and other scholars, on the dispute, that occurred around 1995, over the Chinese translations of French author Stendhal’s Le Rouge et le Noir. As one of the translators, the author of this paper finds it hard to accept some of the arguments in those essays. Numerous examples lead to a convincing contrary conclusion: the translator believing in translation as a process of re-creation tends to perform better, or so much better, than the translator enslaved to the misleading concept of equivalence. Furthermore, the paper argues that Chinese scholars are more advanced and sophisticated in translation theories than their Western counterparts.
