美国文学课自改革开放后重回大学校园，其高校教材编写在九十年代达到了相当程度的繁荣。纵观九十年代出版的二十余部高校美国文学教材，着重对比其中影响较为广泛的十余部，可以发现它们在编写体例、收录作家及其作品、教学实践的可行性等方面有相似之处也各具特色。在结合九十年代我国美国文学研究发展趋势和高校美国文学教学实践反馈的基础上，九十年代高校美国文学的教材编写在整体上取得了与时俱进的发展与繁荣。

The American literature course has returned to the college campus since the reform era ，and the construction of college textbooks of American literature has been booming in the 1990s． Making a general survey of the college textbooks of A- merican literature published in the 1990s ，especially comparing those ten textbooks which have played important roles and exerted some far-reaching influence on the college teaching of American literature ，it can be noticed that they share some similarities con- cerning the compiling style ，the selection of authors as well as their works ，the feasibility in teaching practice ，etc． ，while enjo- ying their own distinctive characteristics in many aspects． Generally speaking ，based on the general trends of American literature research in the 1990s and the feedbacks from college teaching practice of American literature ，the construction of college text- books of American literature has kept up with the times and made a flourishing advancement．
