Coursebooks play a crucial role in foreign language learning and teaching.Lots of research has been done into coursebook writing and a variety of well-accepted coursebooks have been published by foreign presses in the recent decade. The paper gives a brief review regarding the philosophy,the purpose,the relationship between reading and writing,as well as exercise design of reading and writing coursebooks,with a view to offering some instructive insight for material development at home.
