The current theoretical bases and teaching methods of English grammar teaching lag far behind linguistic and language teaching theories. This study intends to explore the path of English grammar teaching innovation, proposing a top-down grammar teaching innovation based on cognitive grammar. The main ideas of the innovation are to construct a cognitive pedagogical grammar, to innovate grammar and grammar teaching perspectives of English teachers, to compile course books or textbooks for different levels of students, and to carry out grammar teaching according to the contents and the ideas of the cognitive pedagogical grammar.
