Abstract
This paper examines the origin, evolution, implications and significance of transcreation. It argues that the manifold meanings of transcreation include translation, creation, negotiation and cultural hybridity. Transcreation is a form of writing that combines translation with creation. It is a bidirectional creative process, in which the transcreator presents his/her own culture in (or from) another language to achieve cultural hybridity. Furthermore, as an efficient means of cultural hybridity, transcreation is significant to translation studies and cultural studies in the globalized era.
