Abstract
There are many sex-related metaphorical expressions in contemporary Chinese fiction, and among them these conceptual metaphors are frequently seen like SEX IS PLANT, SEX IS ANIMAL, SEX IS WAR, SEX IS FOOD, and SEX IS AGRICULTURE. Through textual analysis, it is found that many of those metaphorical expressions are deleted in the translation, especially those with cultural specificity and of less importance; those with cross-cultural adaptability and playing an important role in constructing the original text are usually reproduced by the translator, and the esthetic effect is desirable; and the translator also add some metaphorical expressions occasionally. Generally speaking, the rhetorical power of those sex-related metaphorical expressions is, to a certain degree, weakened in the target texts, which is not instrumental in conveying the special way Chinese people understand and experience sex.
