晚明译入西方科技改变了社会风气，以徐光启为中心的开明士大夫以民族复兴为己任，翻译了众多的西方著作，并主张科技救国。在科技翻译思想上主要表现为以度数之学为科技发展之根基，便于旁通众务；以实用为科技选择之圭臬，追求实事求是的科学态度；以超胜为科技创新之指向，虚访勤求地会通中西科技。在科技实践中开展了丰富的济民救世活动，并在历法、数学、农业和军事上颇有贡献。同时，这一时期徐光启翻译和研究西方科技背后蕴涵的科技翻译思想和科研实践具有独特的价值和历史意义。不仅给国势衰微的晚明再创了科技事业的辉煌，推动了近代科学思想的启蒙，而且有助于国人运用先进的科学知识、方法和思想解释科技，从而推动科技创新和科学普及的实践，最终寻求创新发展的超胜之路。

Translating western science and technology in the late Ming Dynasty changed the social atmosphere. Enlightened scholar-officials with Xu Guangqi as the center took national rejuvenation as their mission, translated numerous western works, and advocated “saving the country through science and technology”. In the ideology of scientific and technological translation, it is mainly manifested in taking the science of metrology as the foundation of scientific and technological development so as to facilitate mastering all affairs, taking practicality as the guideline for the choice of science and technology, pursuing the scientific attitude of seeking truth from facts, and taking “outperform the west” as the goal of scientific and technological innovation and humbly and diligently connecting Chinese and western science and technology. In the practice of science and technology, varieties of activities to help the people and the country were carried out, and considerable contributions in calendar, mathematics, agriculture and the military were made. The ideas and practices behind Xu Guangqi’s translation and study of western science and technology in this period are of unique value and historical significance. Not only did it help the late Ming to recreate the glory of science and technology and promote the enlightenment of modern scientific thought, but it also helped the nation to apply advanced scientific knowledge, methods and ideas to the interpretation of science and technology, thus to find the innovation and development road to “outperform the west”.
