Professor Zhao Yunzhong asked a rhetorical question “what is the subject to the Russian researchers in China?” in his article entitled “Retrospection and Expectation”. Some concepts such as “Russian researcher”, “Russian as a foreign language” and “the study of Russian in China”, etc. were discussed in this article. Based on the reflection on the thoughts of Professor Zhao and the analysis of some related concepts, some mistaken views can be clarified, and the self-orientation of the Russian researchers in China can be established. It is proposed in this article that the future study of Russian in China should feature the Chinese practicality and creativity and the characteristics of Chinese teaching and research, and it should become a common goal for all the Russian researchers in China.
