Reporting in an academic research article introduces other researchers theories，experiments，findings and viewpoints and thus paves the way for the author s discussion．The corpus investigation shows that the commonly used tenses in reporting are: the simple present，simple past and present perfect． The ratio of active voice to passive voice is 1． 91． The grammatical subjects in reporting can be divided into four categories: the participant domain，the discourse domain，the hypothesized domain and real world domain.The correlation between tense and sentence function，and the correlation between voice and grammatical subject are explored．The evaluation in reporting and its implications for its writing are suggested．
