Abstract

It has been proven, through full-fledged theory explanation and plenty of case analyses, that pun, used to be a category of traditional rhetorical device possesses all the essences of metaphor from the perspective of Cognitive Linguistics. So they can be manipulated under the same theoretical framework for profound investigation. The comparable body structure and relevant experiences shared between English and Chinese language users result in existing English-Chinese pun metaphor similarities. Nonetheless, the Chinese and English nations belong to two drastically different cultures, which determines that there must be discrepancies in between.
