ESP ，short for English for Specific Purposes ，is different from EGP ，it could be developed in order to meet the demands of internationalization of higher education ，but we really should be cautious before turning the traditional College English Teaching into complete ESP-oriented courses． The key notions ，objec- tives and missions of College English Teaching and the existing problems in China 's ESP teaching are analyzed and clarified． We maintain that College English Teaching should be incorporated into the framework of general education ，a direction of college education reform ，to seek larger space to play its role．
