Abstract

The two major types of lexical cohesion in English, namely reiteration and collocation, can form both immediate and remote ties in a text. Successful recognition and reconstruction of various lexical cohesions is of great significance to improving the quality of English-Chinese text translation. The Chinese version of the English fiction, Atonement, provides good raw materials for analyzing the problems of reconstructing lexical cohesion and their detrimental effect on the quality of English-Chinese text translation. The strategy of formal correspondence is recommended in the translation of lexical cohesion.
