Abstract

During the paradigm shift of EFL teaching at tertiary level from EGP ( English for General Purposes) to ESP ( English for Specific Purposes) in Chinese context, the focus should be on EGSP ( English for General Academic Purposes) which may take the place of the current college English integrated course. Although both deal with language and train their general literacy, EGAP differs from EGP in the objective, content and methodology. It is characterized by its need-focused,content-based. learner- centered,project-driven instruction,an instruction which can not be performed by the current college English integrated course.
