Abstract

This paper reviews the recently published book Cultural-historical Perspectives on Teacher Education and Development: Learning Teaching edited by Viv Ellis,Anne Edwards and Peter Smagorinsky. It indicates the contribution of the book to the field of teachers' learning research, then introduces the main content and organization of the book. Finally,it discusses the implications for researching foreign language teachers' learning in China. This review aims to help Chinese teacher educators and researchers better understand the history and development of sociocultural theory and identify the key constructs of teacher learning within a sociocultural perspective. It calls for more original research on teachers' learning in the local contexts of China.
