Abstract

Educational philosophy is the starting point for curriculum-related decisions. The objectives, contents, methods and materials of a curriculum are greatly influenced by the underlying educational philosophies. The present paper aims to discuss Curriculum objectives, contents and development of the College English Course from the perspective of educational philosophy. It is proposed that College English should follow the“Whole Person Principle”of Humanism, and open general English, English for Liberal Education, English for Special Purpose and bilingual courses for students of different English levels. General English course is set up for students of lower level; English for Liberal Education is set up to cultivate cultural awareness of EFL students; English for Special Purpose and bilingual courses are opened for advanced students.
