Abstract

Since World War II, diverse languages are taught in American Universities. The paper analyses the rationales and approaches which promote the diversity of languages in American universities. Based on China's special condition and the example set by the U. S. A. , the paper proposes that China should build national comprehensive foreign language education funding system, sponsor related languages' teaching and learning in the Area and Country Study centers, make a flexible language study mechanism and strengthen language professional associations to diversify foreign languages taught in Chinese universities.
