This essay discusses the translation of Chinese literature in a globalized world． It is pointed out that the poor reception of translated Chinese literary works in the West in the past few decades should not be imputed to the official patron ( i． e． the Chinese government) ， Chinese ideology and translation strategies． Ｒather it was due to the lack of necessity in the target cultures for Chinese culture and literature． It is then observed that， in the process of globalization， with the development of China and the increasing cultural exchange between China and the West， there has arisen an increasingly keen interest in Chinese culture and literature in Western countries． In this process， it is further pointed out， more and more Chinese literary works have been translated into other languages by Western translators and their main translation strategy has been moving from the domestication side to the foreignization side in response to the increasing need and expectation of Western readers for genuine and undiluted Chinese culture and literature． The essay concludes that our whole concern should be how to satisfy this need and expectation for Chinese literature to reach the outside world．
