Abstract

It is a necessity to renovate the English teaching as the concepts of knowledge have been redefined, the ways of learning have been diversified, the media of instruction have been updated and the teaching resources have been extended in the era of digitization. This is true with English classroom teaching in the primary or junior school. We propose that it would be efficient to bring forward the transformation from the stereotype of exam-oriented English teaching into the autonomous learning-based model of language instruction by means of catering for the needs of learners, exploiting the digital resources, creating the IT-based teaching context and building the open-ended platform of resource sharing. These means embody the English curriculum values of instrumentality and humanity. They are employed to integrate the traditional teaching methods into the modern ones and combine the English textbooks with the digitized knowledge in order to optimize the teachers’ instruction and the learner’s autonomy in the context of English classroom teaching in the Primary and Junior schools.
