This paper discusses the status quo of the English translations of Chinese social and Cultural words. By analyzing some successful renderings of culture-loaded expressions in literary and classic works, together with the feedbacks from a relevant survey, the author argues that in translating Chinese Cultural and Social words, the core social and cultural elements should be maintained; while from the linguistic perspective, different translation methods like transliteration, interpretation, free translation, and replacement should be adopted to facilitate the understanding of target audience. The translation of a certain expression is to be updated with the change of time.
