The analysis on different policy agencies’ attitudes towards College English as compulsory course

Abstract

Nowadays the lack of government management has caused English mania and a heated controversy around the phenomenon that English is the compulsory course from primary school to college. Via analyzing and comparing the different viewpoints from macro and micro policy makers, people influencing policy and relevant personnel, this paper contends that this phenomenon is contemporary and the whole mania will recede with the development of economy and education. Government abolishes unnecessary English tests; Experts construct foreign language teaching theory and practice to improve learning efficiency; Whole society emphasizes mother language improvement; Different universities and English teachers actively constitute well directed, diverse and practical language-in-education planning according to needs analysis, which are all what we should strive for in the future.
