Abstract

The famous classical Chinese literature has gone through the more extensive and deeper overseas transmission in the strategic process of Chinese culture’s “going out”, but still needs closer attentions and further clarifications in terms of the translation as well as the acceptance of Chinese literature abroad. Literary translation is fundamentally a generative process of the life of the text, of which literary acceptance is indispensable. Meanwhile, translation is always reader-oriented, closely related to the acceptance of readers, concerning the establishment of translation modes or the selection of translation strategies and methods. Accordingly, from the generative nature of literary translation, this paper points out that literary acceptance, just like literary translation, is constantly striving for its refreshment, perfection, enrichment and development, in order to historically and dynamically reveal its periodical, temporal, and developmental characteristics, with the typical cases in the translation of the Four Great Classical Novels in Chinese literature.
