Abstract

Japan’s foreign language education policy focuses on English education, while foreign languages other than English are ignored. This article traces back to the history of minority language education in Japan, and analyzes the current situation of minority language education based on various statistical data, in order to fully grasp the Japanese foreign language education policy. The foreign language universities and departments have traditionally attached importance to literary research. After World War II, the system of “regional research and international relations education” was gradually established. The foreign language courses as general courses focus on human factors and are part of the quality education of universities. The government attaches importance to the value of foreign language resources for “overseas children, returning children” and provides a series of supporting measures. Under the background that China’s academic circles pay more and more attention to the training mode of multilingual talents, the above-mentioned practices in Japan are worthy of reference.
