“Curricula of integrated ideology and politics” in foreign language education

Abstract

It is the leading purpose of China’s higher education policy today to practice the fundamental task of fostering virtue and morality in students and serving the state, embodying the nation’s strategies of talent cultivation. Following the educational policy, foreign language education has to orient its mission of catering to the national needs of talents. It is argued that foreign language education should design its curricula of integrated ideology and politics in order to nurture different major courses of which “Contemporary Western Humanist Theories: An Introduction” will be cited as an example to illustrate how it fulfills the purpose of understanding and critiquing the Western humanist thought through a critical stance of a Chinese perspective and cultivate in the minds of students values of the Chinese dominant ideology in the new era.
