As a destination of international tourists, China is lagging behind many countries, because we have not been telling effective stories about China as a country of fascinating and abundant tourist resources. Based on a discussion of the translation and dissemination efforts around Xu Xiake and the Travel Diaries of Xu Xiake, this paper argues that we need to stick to the principle of “telling effective Chinese stories” when we translate Chinese travel literature.
