Abstract

From the perspective the degree of resemblance between the source language and the target language, there are there basic translation methods in Chinese-English and English-Chinese translation, namely, direct borrowing, imitative translation, and creative translation. In order to render the source text accurately to promote cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries effectively, there is almost always a need for imitation or imitative translation. The emergence of the Internet has provided the feasibility for the wide application of imitation. With the help of Chinese English bilingual corpora, it is becoming increasingly more and more convenient to imitate the most ideal target language. The specific methods of imitation mainly range from category imitation, replacement of parts of a well-known expression or an idiom as well as structure imitation. However, there also exist potential problems in terms of style, originality and aesthetics in the application of imitation. This paper is intended to specifically discuss the necessity, feasibility, practical methods and its potential problems.
