A reference framework for designing foreign literature courses for foreign language and literature majors

Abstract

Cultivating college foreign language and literature majors has always been one of the goals of Chinese college foreign language and literature education programs. This article first reviews the past and present practices of foreign literature courses for foreign language and literature majors in China. It then discusses the significance of strengthening the training of foreign literature as part of the whole major cultivation and illustrates its implication in the curriculum stated in both The National Standards of Teaching Quality for Undergraduate Foreign Language and Literature Majors and its subsequent implementing design The Teaching Guide for Undergraduate Foreign Language and Literature Majors. The focus of this article offers a reference framework for designing foreign literature courses to materialize the cultivation of foreign language and literature talents.
