Abstract

The translation and criticism of the Shanghai School Novels during the Republic of China in France have obvious particularities in the process of overseas dissemination of modern Chinese literature. Focus on the translation of a certain writing style is really rare in the history of French Sinology. What’s more, in the process of translation, the literary circles of China and France learn from each other and always maintain interaction. When choosing the text, French scholars showed a tendency towards cosmopolitanism. Their aesthetic thinking on the selected novels and their definition of Shanghai School deserve the attention of domestic researchers.
