Literary research has undergone a cognitive turn in the 1970s. Cognitive Stylistics emerged when cognitive linguists incorporate literary language into the research field. By reviewing and analyzing the past studies, this paper clearly and systematically expounds the historical evolution, research methods and development trend of Cognitive Stylistics. Accordingly, it is argued that： Cognitive stylistic researchers construct a systematic literary theory from a cognitive perspective, incorporating cognitive stylistics into the neurological field of embodied experience, and analyzing more comprehensively the cognitive mode of characters, and explain systematically the cognitive mechanism of readers’ reading literary works.
