Abstract

Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings, carrying the poet’s thoughts and care about the world, life and values. In the context of ideological and political education integrated throughout curriculum, English poetry teachers should guide students to realize their empathy with poems and explore and learn the moral concepts and humanistic concerns in the feelings in the poems, and finally accomplish the moral-sentimental teaching objectives of cultivating students’ Socialist Core Values. Based on Slote’s Care-ethical Sentimentalism, this paper presents the hierarchical process of achieving moral-sentimental objectives in the general education course of English poetry, taking the unit teaching of English Classical Poetry Reading and Appreciation course as an example.
