Abstract
From the perspectives of philosophy, anthropology and cognitive psychology, this paper delves into the deep cultural structure, meaning chain and problem chain behind the overall concept of traditional Chinese poetry and painting(TCPP). It points out that TCPP is an entity of “syntext” structure, beneath which is the structure of cultural meaning chain and collective unconsciousness of the trinity of home, country and world of the traditional Chinese literati. After analyzing the concept, method and meaning chain of TCPP as a syntext, it indicates, through the case study, that the multimodal translation and dissemination of TCPP is essentially a cross-cultural communication, namely, to build a mutually acceptable and reciprocal interaction between two cultures. Under the context of digital humanities, the purpose of multimodal translation and dissemination of TCPP is to realize the cross-spatio-temporal, non-entity, non-linear, multimodal, cross-border, two-way interactive, in-person involving cross-cultural communication of TCPP. The nature of this sort of cross-cultural communication is to make the Western audiences understand, appreciate and accept the cultural thinking, historical life, artistic aesthetics and living world of Chinese literati from a more intuitional and vivid way by use of a variety of modern technologies, methods and pathways with an aim to cross the disciplinary boundaries, language boundaries and cultural barriers.
