Abstract

English aspects, including grammatical aspect and verbal aspect, are grammatical concepts to distinguish whether an event or an action is completed or not. The grammatical aspect emphasizes the progress of an event, while the verbal aspect focuses on the process of an action or a state. In practical language use, the two aspects are integrated with each other, and the grammatical aspect is mainly realized and expressed with the verbal aspect. When the verbal aspect satisfies the grammatical aspect, the two aspects are integrated to profile the meaning of the grammatical aspect. When the verbal aspect partially satisfies the grammatical aspect, the two aspects are integrated with the coercion of the grammatical aspect onto the verbal aspect and the interaction between the verb and its co-occurring elements, producing additional meaning.
