Li is the highest category of Zhu Xi’s thoughts. After being Geyi by the Western theological and philosophical discourse over one and a half centuries, the English translations of Zhu Xi’s thoughts have finally embraced their peak within the historical background of the academic development of Neo-Confucianism in America. According to the study, the relevant English translations in this phase have displayed the prominent representations of multi-dimensional name-rectification of Zhu Xi’s thoughts with Li at the Core. Thus, investigation from this viewpoint is of great historical and academic value. This paper, based on the interpretation of name-rectification’s intercultural connotation, deeply probed into this trend and relevant practices in translations by Chan Wing-tsit, Wittenborn, Gardner, and Ebrey within the specific historical context, with a view to unveiling the common features of the English translations of Zhu Xi’s thoughts in this phase. Hopefully, this study can provide some reference to the current spreading of Zhu Xi’s thoughts overseas.
