A Study of Attitude Resources in News Discourses on Climate Change from the Ecolinguistic Perspective

Abstract

Based on the ecolinguistic perspective and the ecosophy in the context of climate change, this study intends to conduct an in-depth analysis of the attitude resources in American news discourses on climate change in order to explore the ecological orientation and ideology, thereby counteracting destructive discourse, improving ambivalent discourse and encouraging beneficial discourse. The findings are as follows:(1)The order of attitude types in news discourses on climate change is judgment, appreciation and affect;(2)Attitude resources in news discourses reflect the beneficial, ambivalent and destructive ecological orientation respectively;(3)By examining the attitude resources in American news discourses on climate change, we can explore the ecological view that are contrary to ecological harmony, such as “America First”, “Economy First”, etc.
