Abstract

Both original narration and re-narration serve the function of political construction. For this reason, in the context of international communication, the national narration with the theme of Science of China is a national strategy of great significance in promoting China’s global influence and scientific discourse power. The paper investigates some essential questions regarding the construction mechanism of re-narration, the necessity of conducting international communication in the field of Chinese science and technology, and existing problems in reconstructing national narration. Adopting a broad-based approach, it puts forward three rules for adaptive choice in the translation as a re-narration in its nature: the content should be adapted to the demand for further scientific exchange in the globe; the narrative mode should be adapted to the consensual logic of effective communication; and the narrative style should be adapted to the cognitive way of target readers. By proposing these rules, the paper hopes to solve problems such as cognitive gap and ideological identification in the narrative shift of space. It comes to the conclusion that, the translator is required to take into first consideration the ultimate purpose and final effect of international communication, follow the new era’s paradigm of translation ethics with a combination between individual ethics of profession and national ethics of responsibility, and then make adaptive choices in employing translation strategies.
