1979年之后，翻译与翻译批评进入相对繁荣期。许钧长期致力于翻译批评；他出版国内第一部翻译批评 专著《文学翻译批评研究》，共同组织《红与黑》翻译的大讨论，并主持当代翻译家、批评家和文学创作者有关翻译批评的 访谈和对话。翻译批评逐渐摆脱字当句对、语言转换的局限，朝理论化、跨学科和跨文化方向发展。

After 1979, translation and translation criticism began to boom in main land China. XU Jun worked painstakingly on translation criticism: he published the first book of this kind in Chinese history, On Criticism of Literary Translation, organized with joint efforts the discussions and debates on the ( re) translations of Red and Black, and hosted interviews and dialogues on translation criticism among translators, scholars and writers. Since then translation criticism has witnessed a turn from discussion about language skills to theoretical, interdisciplinary and crosscultural studies.
