本研究聚焦回指形式和一致性的习得,通过接受度判断实验,对比考察以汉语为母语的中阶英语学习者与英语母语者的表现。研究发现,这些学习者对零形与非零形区分和一致性错误的敏感度均显著低于英语母语者,其原因在于这些学习者的中介语仍受汉语强空间性思维的影响,尚未完全掌握英语的强时间性思维。本研究提出,英汉时空性思维差异对二语习得具有重要影响,并造成以汉语为母语的中阶学习者在英语习得过程中的困难。

Abstract

This study approaches second language acquisition (SLA)in the light of the differences between Chinese spatiality and English temporality thinking traits. Specifically looking into the acquisition of anaphora and agreements, it compared the performance of intermediate Chinese learners of English and native English speakers in an Acceptability Judgment Task to uncover whether and how the differences in the thinking traits affect SLA. The results showed that these learners were less sensitive than English native speakers to the distinction between zero and nonzero anaphoric forms and to agreement errors. This study suggests that this was a result of both the effect of these learners’ Chinese pro-spatiality thinking trait and their not yet full acquisition of English pro-temporality thinking trait. The study concludes that the differences between Chinese spatiality and English temporality thinking traits have effects on SLA and thus create learning difficulties for intermediate Chinese learners of English.
