Abstract
The study aims to find out if there exist differences between native (native language being English) and non-native translators in their use of adverb-adjective collocations by comparing the English translations of three Chinese fictional works. We find three consistent discrepancies. First, non-native translators show a tendency to use more adverb-adjective collocations than their native counterparts. Second, native translators resort to a richer variety of adverb-adjective collocations, especially the further description type. Third, native translators display a higher degree of flexibility and creativity in employing adverb-adjective collocations of further description. We believe these discrepancies reflect systematic stylistic distinctions between native and non-native translators.
