Abstract
This paper explores the effects of the L2 (English)learning on the L1 (Chinese)phonological production by comparing the tonal differences of Chinese words, which are transliterated words from English and produced by L2 English learners with different proficiency levels. The results show that L2 learning has an effect on the phonological production of L1. Specifically speaking,(1)the higher the L2 proficiency is, the shorter the L1 tonal length will be, and for the two-character words, the effect of the first character is greater than that of the second character;(2)the higher the L2 proficiency is, the smaller the L1 variation of pitch range will be, and for the two-character words, the effect of the first character is greater than that of the second character. This paper simulates the dynamic process of the L2 influence on L1 based on Speech Learning Model, and will provide new insights into the cross-linguistic influence of L2 on L1.
