摘要
考察核心术语翻译的跨文化传播有助于健全反馈机制,推动我国对外话语体系建设。本文依据Fairclough的三维话语分析模型,通过自建语料库考察政治术语“改革开放”的英译在英美主流媒体的传播与接受。研究发现,“改革开放”存在多种译名,其应用频次呈现不同的历时变化特征,其中“reform and opening up”的使用越来越受青睐。此外,英美媒体虽对“改革开放”的内涵存在一定的偏见,但总体上持积极和中立态度。
Abstract
An investigation into the translation and cross-cultural communication of key political terms is helpful to improve the mass communication feedback mechanism as well as China’s international discursive constructions. This paper, combing the three-dimensional discourse analysis model proposed by Fairclough with a corpus analysis, aims to examine how this political term is disseminated and received in US and UK news reports published in mainstream media. The analysis reveals that there are various translations adopted for the term in the two countries’ media outlets. The use frequency for each of them presents a distinctively diachronic change, among which “reform and opening up” is becoming increasingly popular. It is also found out that the media of US and UK take mostly neutral and positive attitude towards the term while there have also been some misunderstandings.
