摘要
关于我国外语教育的论述颇多,但不少是个人经验或主观判断,缺乏大规模数据支撑,对我国外语教育差异性的考察也相对不足。本文采用网络数据调查的方法,从专业、学位点和师资三个方面考察我国不同层次、性质和地域高校的外语教育情况。结果显示:(1)我国外语专业规模总体比较庞大,几乎所有高校均设有外语专业,其中各校基本均设有英语类专业,日语、俄语、法语、德语等专业也较为常见,专业设置与我国进出口贸易额和政府机构、企业等单位需求量次序基本吻合。(2)不同层次高校外语教育差异显著,专业设置也呈现出一定的偏向性,英语教育(师范)和商务英语专业多由一般高校开设,985和211高校开设数量较少;985和211高校学位点、教师数量、高职称和高学历教师数量也显著多于一般高校。(3)不同性质高校外语教育差异显著,其中语言类高校开设外语专业数量显著多于其它性质高校,医药类高校专业和学位点则数量显著偏少。(4)尽管语种分布呈现出一定的区域性特征(如俄语专业在华南和西南地区相对较少),但地域对我国外语教育的影响并不显著,不同地域高校在专业、教师数量、高职称和高学历教师数量等方面差异不大。
Abstract
Though there have been numerous discussions on China’s foreign language education, many of them rely on personal experiences or subjective judgments and lack large-scale surveys. Besides, the variations of foreign language education in China are also under-researched. Through web surveys, this study explores the state of foreign language education at universities of different levels, types, and regions in the Mainland of China. It yields the following major findings:(1)Almost all universities offer BA programs in foreign languages, with English-related programs enjoying an overwhelming proportion. Other commonly-taught languages include Japanese, Russian, French, German, etc. The distribution of foreign language programs generally aligns with China’s total export-import volumes with different countries/regions and the demands of government departments, enterprises, etc. (2)Foreign language education differs significantly among universities of different levels, with 985- and 211-project universities offering a significantly higher number of BA and MA programs, and having more faculty members especially those who have been promoted as professors and associate professors or gained their Ph.D. degrees. Education-oriented and business-oriented English BA programs are mainly provided by universities that are not in the 985- and 211- project. (3)Foreign language education differs significantly among universities of different types, with language-oriented universities offering the highest number of BA programs, while medicine / pharmacy-oriented universities offering the least. (4)Foreign language education does not differ significantly among universities in different regions, though the distribution of BA programs does manifest a certain regional pattern (e.g., universities in South and Southwest China rarely offer BA program on Russian).
